Stella Public House, located in East Village, serves up a variety of pizzas and small plates alongside craft beers and cocktails. Recently, I was invited to try out the brunch menu there.
I love the glass building, which gave the dining area a nice open feeling. Next door is Stella’s sister restaurant/cafe, Halcyon, which serves coffee, drinks, and quick bites.
Since it was brunch, my dining companion and I each chose a mimosa to start…
Pear & Mango Chili Mimosas [$6 each]
I enjoyed both of these, but preferred the pear. It was lighter and more refreshing, and I really liked the caramelized sugar on the rim of the glass.
Wood-oven baked with mushrooms, ham, & burrata, topped with spicy oil.
I’m a sucker for polenta and was immediately drawn to it upon glancing at the menu. This was served sizzling hot in a super adorable mini cast-iron pan (I’ve really got to get myself one of these!). I really loved the hearty flavors of this dish – especially the heat from the chili oil which paired nicely with the creamy burrata – though it was a bit on the heavy side towards the end. I loved that the polenta was perfectly crispy!
Avocado Toast [$14]
Avocado smear on house-made bread, topped with smoked salmon, wasabi salt, caviar, onion, and tomato.
This was quite a fancy version of avocado toast! I’m glad that we chose this in addition to the polenta because it was a lighter dish. I loved the pairing of avocado with the smoked salmon, and the house-made bread also tasted quite fresh.
Overall, we had a lovely brunch at Stella Public House. The place had a casual and fun atmosphere, and it would be a great place to catch up with friends over a drink. Next time, I’ll have to return to try their dinner menu, especially the pizzas!
Lastly, a photo of their craft beer board… there are definitely many options for beer-lovers here!
