iDessert by Jean-Philippe opened up in San Diego a couple of years ago, and I recently went to check it out. Unlike the Jean-Philippe Patisseries in Las Vegas, which serve more traditional desserts and chocolates, iDessert is a new concept that allows you to customize your dessert.
I loved the meringue shells hanging from the ceilings! It was a really creative decorative touch, hehe.
You can choose whether you want to create a “Dessert”, “Sundae”, or “Milkshake” – there are iPads along a counter on one side of the store where you can customize and send your order. I definitely wanted to try one of their signature meringue desserts and since it was my first visit, I decided to choose one of the chef’s creations: “Cozy”, which features a chocolate crust, mocha gelato, vanilla cream, vanilla cake, caramel sauce, caramelized hazelnut crunch, served in a Vegas bowl – which means it’s filled with dry ice to achieve a dreamy, ethereal look.
I absolutely loved the presentation! The dropper that you see sticking out is filled with the aforementioned vanilla cream, which you’re supposed to empty into the dessert.
The other ends of their spoons are slightly pointy, so you can use that to crack open the meringue shell to reveal the insides. The dessert creation ended up being super delicious! I loved the mocha gelato – it had just the right amount of bitterness to offset the sweetness of the other ingredients. And, the chocolate meringue shell and caramelized hazelnuts added a delightful and crunchy textural contrast. I was definitely impressed down to the last bite!
Overall, I had a great time at iDessert and loved the innovative concept. I’m already getting ideas for how to customize my own bowl at the next visit! They also offer some pre-packaged treats – I didn’t buy any this time, but they looked adorable. I’ll definitely be revisiting soon!
