I am currently running a giveaway for Endangered Species Chocolate cocoa spreads and Davidson’s Safest Choice Eggs! Ends Saturday 1/2!
Is it really that time of the year again? 2015 seemed to fly by – it was certainly an eventful year, with personal and academic growth, as well as, of course, many memorable meals.
One of the first restaurants we visited in the new year was Yakitori Taisho, which ended up being an indulgent and delicious meal. My favorite item here was the Butashiso – shiso wrapped with pork belly, served with a plum paste. This was tender, smoky, and flavorful – the best butashiso I’ve had.
We discovered The Incredible Cheesecake Company, which quickly became one of our favorite dessert places.
Pictured above is the Cookies & Cream cheesecake. We have tried a variety of flavors, from original to lemon meringue to Dutch apple, and have enjoyed them all.
Another one of our favorite sweet bites of the year was at The Baked Bear – they made an ice cream donut sandwich, topped with whipped cream and fruity pebbles.
S and I became a bit adventurous with Italian food this year – we tried Davanti Enoteca on a whim. The Focaccia di Recco + Honeycomb alone is worth going back for, although we enjoyed pretty much everything we ordered that day.
And of course, we made a few trips to LA/Orange County this year for various concerts/events/random food trips. We fell in love with Kang Ho-dong Baekjeong, a Korean BBQ restaurant, which grills high-quality meat over charcoals.
Another highlight of the LA trips is Dean Sin World, which served up really amazing pan-fried buns (sheng jian bao). I wish we had this in San Diego so badly!
We also had our first taste of poke bowls in Irvine, at Wow Bento. We’ve tried poke in SD, but it wasn’t as good – we have some other poke bowl places on our list to try in Orange County and LA, and I definitely hope that something will make it down here.
I think I’ll conclude the recap here. It’s been a year filled with delicious eats – thank you all for following along my little food journey. Happy new year!
